10000 downloads
Today the download counter for Lazyest Gallery in the WordPress Plugin Directory hit the 10000 mark. An excellent time to think about what to do next.
I have picked up the development of Lazyest Gallery about 11 months ago and I have added several new features in that time.
At this point, it is getting harder and harder to build on the existing code framework. I am looking at a lot of redundant code, functions with many parameters, and functions that just cannot be altered without breaking them. But, maybe that is what you get when you start working on someone else's code.
I have taken the decision to start rewriting the plugin from scratch using object oriented design. From now on I will use inline phpDocumentor documentation, and I hope to reduce the number of files drastically.
Sorry to dissappoint the users that are waiting for new features like pretty permalinks for the gallery. They will have to wait. Features like that are just too difficult to include using the current code base.
Version 0.12.2.2 will be the version to use until I finish recoding, except if bugs are found. The new version counter will start at 1.0

work in progress…..
I find a lot of things that need to be tackled.
Next week I’ll release a minor update because I found some bugs while sifting through the code.

12 February 2009I’m certainly willing to wait patiently while you recode. What you’ve done with the old codebase is impressive!
